9 month stats

Last Tuesday was EJ's nine month checkup. She is 19lbs 14 oz, and 28.5 inches tall. Both of those are in the 75th percentiles. She is self feeding now and totally rejects being spoon fed. She is cruising around the furniture like a champ, and has even started letting go and standing for a few seconds on her own. She seems to always be on the move! Not like her mother at all...hehehe.
I found the baby kimono I knit for her to come home from the hospital in while cleaning the other day.

Can garter stitch scream?

Overall I am a fan of the finished blankie, although it has not yet hit the wash. I might be more gentle with that this time around as I have had surprises with the Swish yarn in the past. I made a few mistakes when begining the intarsia technique, but I didn't notice until I was too far past them to care any more. I just couldn't bear to reknit that much garter stitch. It is not THAT obvious

Towards the end I definitly wanted to be done with this blanket!! I didn't expect it to take me 5 months to complete, but I did reach my goal of finishing it before going back to work! I even had a week to spare.

Hopefully with my return to work I will be able to make progress on the Cables and O's Cardigan once again!

And the slow knitting continues! I am proud to say I am 1/2 way through the i-cord edging on the blankie!!


I cannot wait to work on something new!

Baby Moderne, block 9 complete!!

No no no... look past the baby. I know it is hard. She is pretty darn cute. Block 9 is done!! I completed the 54th ridge last night and bound off before our bed time. Time to pick up stitches for block 10 which is only 18 ridges (and I thought it was 36, what a happy surprise!) This blanket will be done before I go back to work for sure!

Baby Knitting

So quietly I started knitting more for the Sprogger. After a blogless friend Lisa mentioned knitting the Baby Kimono pattern from Mason Dixon Knitting for a family member expecting twins I was inspired to make one for our baby. So I came home and found a skein of Lorna's Laces Shepard Sport in my stash. One lonely skein that I was inspired to buy around a year ago. The yarn weight was thinner than the worsted recommended in the pattern, but the yardage was right on. I decided to risk running out and cast on that night. In about a week and a half of pretty regular knitting I had yarn leftover, and this lovely finished object...

The pattern was slightly modified to accommodate buttons which are not yet sewn on, but did make the photo shoot. Also in the picture is the little bit of yarn that was left from the skein after the sweater was seemed up. I am happy with the results and I hope to let Sproggy wear it home from the hospital.

While on the garter stitch kick I started the Baby Moderne baby blanket using the Knit Picks yarn I mentioned in my last post. So far blocks 1,2 and 3 are complete and I am nearly half way through block 4.

I would be much further along, if it had not been for two mistakes. The first was when I started the blue block I didn't pick up enough stitches. After 6 or 7 garter ridges (12-14 rows) I noticed this obvious error. It had to be torn out and reknit. The second mistake happened when I picked up the the stitches for the brown section (block 4). I assumed the block was to lie below the blue and white block and it turned out it was supposed to be on the opposite side, where the blue and pink meet. Sigh.... I only had to frog about 18 rows after that mistake.
I am back on track now... hopefully past the errors and discouragement!

Log Cabin Blanket

Grandparents always seem the hardest to shop for. They have everything they might need. I hate to clutter their house with more knickknacks for them to dust. A hand knit seemed like a perfect solution, and a blanket could be for them both. I kept the size small, it is more of a lap blanket than a full blown afghan. It had to be machine washable too!

Attack of the Mason Dixon Knitting!

I like many others have become smitten with the book and blog Mason Dixon Knitting. Much of my summer knitting was devoted to patterns from this book. They where so simple, yet so inspiring to me. I have a hard time explaining my attraction to the book.

I started with ever popular ball band dishcloths. I knit four in total, with Peaches and Cream Yarn. They are simple and fun to mix up the colors as you go! One was gifted to Mum when she said that she liked them.




Then I saw the linen hand towels and instatnly thought of our friends in NY. Well the female friend of the two... she was turning 30 and I just knew some prissy hand towels would brighten her day! One is the moss grid pattern and the other is a diamond pattern!




I too needed some lovely Euroflax linen hand knit goods for myself so I knit the bubbly curtain for our front door. It looks so perfect in the hall, and I am always complemented on it by our guests!

I also knit a baby bib o'love and a baby genius burp cloth for a knitty friend who had her first son this year!!
